What is documentary photography?
I take a documentary approach to your photography session.
This means I won't pose or prompt you or ask you to do something again. I won't turn lights on or off. I won't move anything out of my way to get a better picture.
What will I do?
Sometimes I'll talk about my own family or ask you questions about yours. Sometimes I'll lay on the floor or stand on a chair. I might even go outside and peak in through the window.
I'll maneuver around your home to create compelling images that are unique to you. And through all of that, you just keep on doing what you do.
Do you take portraits?
Your session will definitely include portraits. But I'm going to ask you to rethink the family portrait. I think of my portraits as story portraits or environmental portraits. These portraits focus on the places and spaces you love most, the connections between you and your family, and the activities you like to do most.

After a consultation and planning conversation, we’ll choose the best time of day to document your family.
We’ll discuss what’s important to you right now.
What firsts (and lasts!) are your children doing? What are their favorite foods, books and toys? You don’t want to miss those first steps or the last bath. Trust me, those first steps become an all out run in the blink of and eye and they transition from baths to showers sooner than you think.
Don’t forget about the teenagers. Texting and video games can be documented artfully. Heading to one of their sports events or music concerts? I’ll tag along for that too.
From wake-up to bedtime, this is YOUR day - you create the schedule – I will document it all.
